34709 steps, or 27.3 km: that is how much I walked on May 6th according to my phone. Me being away from the library means that I have to think about a place to sleep again. I walked pretty far northwest to a Korean section of the city before deciding to head back when I realized I was heading to nowhere useful. One thing to note is that I tried asking people for spare change along the way, but I honestly didn’t think people were buying the idea of a semi-well dressed homeless Asian U of T student and this is where my persona fails me. So far, all the places that I have explored have been commercial strips with restaurants and stores, business districts, small residential houses, or local campus area. As mice said before, this university campus covers a large part of downtown.
I first considered sneaking in people’s backyards for a dirty and bumpy sleep on their grass, but eventually chose a bench right beside the one robby was sitting on when I met her.
If I solely considered the quality of sleep in that spot, it easily surpasses most other spots. The bench is quite comfy, the area was decently quiet during the night, and most importantly, the surrounding buildings blocked a lot of wind. I settled down and actually dozed off pretty quickly. But then something I dredged before actually happened: the campus police woke me from my sleep about 35 minutes later and began questioning me. I bullshitted my way outta there, claiming to be a student that studied all day, who decided to come out for a walk for fresh air and dozed off. They bought the idea of a semi-well dressed hardworking Asian U of T student. This is where my persona helps me.
Eventually, with really nowhere specific to go, I tried my luck at falling asleep on the bench which I settled on Sunday. If you have read and remembered the time that I wrote in the beginning of this diary, you should have figured if I succeeded in sleeping by now.
