Does this hurt anything on the drive train if you shift gears without the clutch? It seems to me that this is an awesome way to preserve the clutch and hydraulic life.

Figured out how to shift my car without the clutch. 1st, 2nd and 3rd no problem. 3rd to 4th needs a clutch, and then 4th to 5th no clutch needed.

as long as you're catching the synchros just right, i don't think it would hurt too bad. I could be wrong, though.

YEAH BRO ITS PERFECTLY OK. MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THE OIL IN YOUR MOTOR WITH BRAKE FLUID TOO. IT MAKES THE MOTOR SPIN FASTER CAUSE BRAKE FLUID IS LIGHTER, THEREFORE MAKING MORE POWER.

:hsugh: I dont know about you, but I'd rather wear my clutch instead of my snychros and blocking rings.

On a bike its actually better for the bike to preload and clutchless upshift. On a car... not so much.

Unless your a DAMN good driver, I'd just burn my clutch a little.

Unless your a pro, shifting w/o will leave you with a toasted trans

I dont see the big problem, i do it in my car sometimes, as long as you dont grind the gears i wouldnt see a problem

Use the clutch. Bikes are completely different from cars.

as long as you are match rev ing no harm. you can also down shift with out clutch but it is harder to do and will most likely cause some damage. but clutches are less expensive than transmissions so keep that in mind.

eh i can go either way in the STi, up or down, just have to rev-match

A good driver doesn't burn the clutch on a shift. You should lose next to no material on a clean shift.

I dont know if it hurts it or not. I can do it through all 5 gears in mine without grinding. I dont usually drive like that though, just if someone asks me what im talking about.

it puts more wear on your synchros, just use the clutch

its not about being a pro or not...its about the type of tranny you have
