So, we got a ton of new music coming out from Opeth, In Flames, Meshuggah, and some other bands I can't remember or don't care to.

brutally put, there are few metal bands that arn't pussy shit. Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Tool fucking kick ass though.

I'm really liking the new In Flames album, it's pretty awesome.

as much as i love In Flames, i'd have to say that this album is slightly better than Soundtrack to Your Escape. Anders' voice (or maybe just the way he uses it) has been going downhill since Clayman, and for some reason the guitars on A Sense of Purpose sounds way too crunchy and percussive.

Well obviously if you only look at the mainstream/popular metal bands you would think that the genre has gone to shit, try something that isn't appealing to just angsty teens.

Note how I said metal nowadays is no different that the shitty mainstream popular music. I've listened to it all.. either its some band with decent sounding instruments but they have some shitty ass growling mother fucker who totally ruins the song, or they are a medieval meets Dream Theater wannabe band.

I have heard a few promising metal bands, but every one of them are myspace no-namers. Most without a singer, considering half the time thats what ruins their sound.

I can see your point but I really like the growling vocals on a lot of the bands I like. I usually don't like bands if I don't like the singer's voice. :dunno:

Not sure, they're one of the few nu-metal style bands that I like. They remind me of a heavier sounding Tool, with the bass/drum and non-standard verses/choruses.

Didn't really care for their last album, though.
