:hs: I thought you were talking about a silverado. I need to catch up on terms.

if you are doing a head gasket and chains, you might as well do the cams...at the extent you are going, its 5 mins of work. Ask me how I know ;)

TT sells 268's for what. $400ish? GIAC 268 chip file is like, $150....

When you pull the head you can get a pretty good idea if its going to run good as you can get a look at the pistons and such...get that shit clean...

Just put it all in time before putting the tranny back in...otherwise you might be second guessing yourself.

On that note....VR6 crew?

I take that back....if you ate doing valve seals, there will literally be no extra work to put those cams in...

Just sayin'

well ive decided im prolly not gonna be doing valve seals if it doesnt need them, and it will take me an extra 2 weeks or so to afford the cams and chip (depending on when bills are due and such maybe even longer) and im on a time restriction with an engine hoist and garage space, im gonna go with 262 cams and the giac chip, they are sold as a set for pretty cheap, if i do 268's il have to get hd valve springs too.

but il just have to wait and see how everything plays out lol

268's dont require springs. I dont care what some people say, and the only springs to buy are schrick...all others are just relabled diesel springs.

I learned a lot when I worked at Bahn brenner motorsport....

do you get a discount on stuff :bigthumb:

how rough is the idle with 268's? this is my second car and the sole purpose for me buying this car was to restore and race/beat on. but right now i will still be driving it around for fun and dont really want a ridiculous idle

I doubt john would hook me up anymore...I haven't worked there in 2 years and I never call them for parts...especially vr stuff as they dont stock much of it...

I have better luck calling venders directly to get a discount, most of them remember me and if I see them at shows I make it a point to catch up with them.

I have 268's in my daily, the only roughness is from my VF poly engine mounts, otherwise, you dont really notice them much. You can hear a slight lope in the idle, but mine might be more pronounced due to my exhaust (no cat, TT downpipe, glass pack to flowmaster out the drivers side before the rear wheel)

hm, well maybe il have to reconsider the cams then, im getting the bfi stage 1 motor mounts, and my current exhaust setup is the TT 2.5" stainless with 2 resonators, and no cat converter

I could call up TT and see what they can do price wise on a set...I just ordered up $500 worth of shit from them just last week (oversized valves and their new downpipe)

Get your OEM stuff from mjm autohaus....cheapest I've found anywhere...even when I worked at BBM, my employee discount wasn't any better than their website...only advantage I got then was free shipping...even then, half the stuff mjm sells offers free shipping...can't go wrong really.

Have fun with the motor install, I'm doing the same thing myself next weekend :)

yeah ive ordered at least $1500 in stuff from mjm in the past 6 months, and im gonna order my head gasket and timing chain next week from them. the main reason i was gonna get the 262 cams was its like 370 for them and a chip and if i got the 268's it is like 380 for the cams i think and then 130 for the chip......and i was still under the impression i needed the valve springs

what are you putting the motor in?

0 mile rebuilt VR with a 2nd Overbore on the pistons, makes it just under 2.9L. essentially traded my pair of Recaro SRDs for it.

i was just noticing something...

your new motor, is from a coil pack car.

your rado should be a distributor car. you'll have to change out the upper timing cover, possibly 1, if not both cams....in case you haven't gotten that far yet. something to look out for.

;)

well i havent really made much progress. had to put the project on hold as im out of money due to not much business at work, and i got a concussion and missed 3 days of work with no pay.

so ive been driving the rado around as is having fun not really worrying about the motor in it currently

very nice project you have going on! I thought about buying one myself there was a white one around town that was kind of clean. I read into them a little bit and didnt want to get a car that had a blown charger on it so i decided to wait and save some more $ till i find something really worth it.
