I heard on the radio today some guy saying that fifty percent of the people in the U.S. think the world is just a tad over 6,000 years old.

Wondering how many folks feel that way

Please no flaming, trolling, or baiting I really am just curious to know how many think that life on this planet is that new.

I believe our planet and its life forms have existed for billions of years, that belief based on current scientific knowledge.

6,000 years falls in line with Creationism, which I do not believe.

I have to go with carbon dating and such and say "old." I don't get the 6k Earth theory, but I'm really religious.

I would rather believe a scientist who's made this field of study his life's work than a preacher who works intentionally to keep his flock in opposition to scientific fact.

There are many polls on this subject all over the internet, some broken down by education & income levels as well as religious beliefs. You'll find the segments of our population with higher education & incomes are more likely to agree with scientific estimates, regardless of their religions.

about 4.5 byo. it's scary that that many people (according to the first post, at least) believe that it's only about 6000 years old

The earth is billions of years old. For some reason, I'm still shocked whenever I hear professors say otherwise.

6000 year old makes absolutely no scientific or logical sense if you think about it. Do people think the new species coming out today were created spontaneously as well?

Im a catholic and probably billions of years old.

But i dont really know or care. the 6000 years old thing doesnt really have any effect on anything though and isnt supposed to be literal...

But also for the people who think it is supposed to be literal or whatever, what is to say that the earth wasnt just created with Dinosaur bones and aged rocks and shit already on it? I mean if god was making earth, he could do that....

But really, i dont care
