Hey fuck you too.
I haven't even tried yet with this new barrel. No time.
Been working a lot... giving me time to surf the intertubes, but no time for gun stuff (except for 1 short range trip.)
I'm off for a couple days after tonight... so I'll try to get that done, if it even works at all.

at first i was gonna bust balls about this thread being made, then i remembered my ill fated MSpaint thread and i decided against it

This new barrel seems to have a much nicer finish, so something must be different.
The people that have had good luck doing the "vinegar/polish" mod seem to have later serial numbers... so I'm thinking maybe this new finish is easier than the old, for some reason.
Like you said, we'll see.

I saved that, btw. That cracked me up for a good...... 10 seconds, or so.
decisions decisions. i wouldn't mind doing it to the slide, but I don't have a tool to take the slide off, or any other parts for that matter

The slide is very labor intensive. It looks good when you're done... but there are a lot of little nooks and crannies to get in, and that can take some patience.

Sights a PITA if you don't have a proper sight pusher.
"Swing & Hack" is not exactly a good method use for guns.

Well if you're going to be a "smith" and take on other people's projects and return a profit, it'd be worth it.
If not, its totally not worth it for your own purposes because how many times are you really going to use it? Once? Twice?
People don't change their own sights THAT much.

i got my front dead on, and my rear is a lil off. i'm just gonna ask the smith at my range to square it up for me on my next range trip

Yeah that's another thing, Roll Cage. Once you do finally hack them off and get the new ones on... you need to make sure they are aligned correctly.
The front usually is easier for some reason.

THAT'S the stainless look I was talking about... not the chrome shiny blingy crap.
That actually looks tasteful for a functioning gun.

Not crazy about the other parts though, I would have kept them black. Just the slide/barrel for me.

really? they need to be straight? the front is easy on mine, cause the hole that is in the slide is more like a small oval, so the base sits in it fairly straight to begin with. i could have gotten the rear centered, but i didn't want to jack it up. it will be done by this weekend.

I need to wet sand it? lol. Geez, and here I was thinking I could just rub it off.
All I did was put it in the vinegar for 30 mins and then try to vigorously rub it off.
Went and shot it at my dad's friends house yesterday. Damn nice groupings at 20 yards into the pond line. No pics

Mine's an MPL, but its a brand new barrel with the new finish... so it should be no different than yours.
I'm at the point where I don't even care anymore, I may just leave it black then.
I don't feel like messing with it anymore. I've wasted like 3 gallons of vinegar trying to get this crap to work.

when you rub it, do you get any black on your fingers? If so, then start sanding. Maybe you are using junk vinegar? I used Heinz if it makes any difference.

I've used every brand I could find at the grocery store.
Yeah, I got black on my fingers, but it didn't appear to be finish. I thought it looked more like residue from when I went to the range.
You're the first person I've talked to that's mentioned ANYTHING about sanding. EVER.
I've read every single thread about this vinegar trick on the M&P boards, and this is the first I've heard of sanding of any sort.
Everyone else says you just rub it right off, like its easy as fuck and just comes off like butter. Yeah right.
