i've got a new project i'm working on, its a chinese sks. and before you post "where are the pics" my wife has the camera so i aint got any. i have completely stripped the gun down to the bare stock, and the wood is real real nice. all the shellac is gone thank god.

the finish used to be real real orangey, but now its a nice light walnut. i chose not to stain it and let the real wood come through. i've just applied the second coat of tung oil, and its lookin good.

i'll post some pictars when my camera returns home, but i thought i'd even see if anyone would want to see them. :dunno:

me too, i'm hoping if i keep this long enough my neighbor will sell it to me. it has some of the nicest wood you'll ever see on an sks. my neighbor is this old biker dude who has a lot of different firearms, but never shoots any of them.

he bought the sks, and "cleaned" it :ugh: when i pulled the hand guard off i took the gas piston out and it has a ring of what appears to be cosmoline about an inch high up the piston shaft. i'm not super knowledgeable about the function of an sks, but i'm sure it will fire/function much better when i'm done.

My grandpa was HUGE into refinishing guns. I inherited a Marlin 12 gauge from 1920 and the wood looks better than new. Wish I had learned a thing or two about it before he passed away. :hs:

my father in law just got his grandfathers winchester model 1897 shotgun, and by the serial i've found that it was made in 1903-4. my father in laws dad had it, then it was purchased by someone at the estate auction that was had when he passed.

then the person who bought it passed away, and his wife found my father in law and gave it back to him. he was pretty emotional about as you can imagine. it was really cool for him to get back a piece of his family history. a 100+ year old piece of history

this is why i have purchased my revolver. i wanted to have a very nice piece that when i'm dead and gone, my son/daughter would keep and cherish.

cliffs: gun was his grandfathers, then his dads, then was bought at an estate auction, and finally returned to him after the guy who bought it passed. 100 year old heirloom returned FTMFW.

I just got my grandfathers remington 510 .22. He said he bought it for $5 when he was 17. He's 80 now. Not THAT old, but still so much cooler than any new 10/22 or something.

oh, and pics or ban faggot

my wife has the camera cause she's away for work :wtc: i'll get the pics of the sks when she gets back. the 1897 will have to wait till easter when i go back home. and from what i hear its not in that good of shape. my father in law said he would be afraid to fire it, but that its on the downside of fair condition. but really i think he could give a fuck if it works or not. i think he was just more happy about having it back in the family.
