what were yall doing when the planes hit?

i was in class in ny, and they dragged everyone into the student center to watch the news when the first plane hit. a lot of people were crying because they had family working in or near the towers.

crazy thing is that i flew into nyc 2 days before the planes hit. shit is crazy

I was in English class my senior year... i was the one who turned on the TV.

It was after the plane had hit the Pentagon, tho, if I remember correctly. We couldn't tell what was going on because the announcing was so horrible... what I do remember is hearing someone say, "hey, a plane hit the world trade center" and I figured it was some Cessna or something, some drunk-ass flying too close.

had no idea. :wtc:

Watching them fall made my face numb. I didn't really remember most of the rest of the day - just listening on the Radio because Flight 93 was coming back towards Cleveland for a while, and that's where you're like, "OK shit, where is this plane going to hit now, what the fuck is going on here."

I was a freshman in highschool about 45 minutes northeast of Philadelphia. The teachers were not allowed to tell us what was going on right after it happened and we weren't allowed to turn on any tvs or radios until they made a school-wide anouncement. After they made the anouncement around 10:30am the counselor's office was flooded. I remember that for like a week we weren't allowed to go outside for gym or inbetween classes [we had two buildings connected by a walkway and a skyway on the second floor]. It was scary and the smoke/dark clouds filled the air that afternoon. It was so surreal. Turns out a girl in my class lost her father. He was one of the pilots of Flight 175 that went into the south tower. It was a sad time, but what really upset me is that she went to school the next day to avoid the media at her house.

It was weird because I had just gone to NYC a week before to visit the sites with some of my family from Baltimore. It was sad seeing the same ferrys taking people to hospitals in NJ that we had been on earlier exploring Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan.

I also watched the movie Flight 93 a few days ago and remembered that one of the young women on there was my dad's coworker's daughter. They still have her phone activated so they can listen to her voicemail :wtc:

I will never ever forget.

I was in Home room in HS. The teacher next door came into our class and said to switch from "channel one" to the news cause a plane hit the WTC. we watched in Home room. Homeroom ended, and I went to math class. Watched the TV in math class as well and saw the second plane hit. stayed in school for about an hour after that just watching the news. I had early lunch and I cut at like 11 something and cut class with my nieghbor/friend. I remember that we were walking towards the center of town to get lunch, and i remember seeing the NY skyline once we got on top of the hill. Remember all of the smoke coming from the city and not being able to see the towers anymore.... My buddy and me just chilled at my house afterwards.

Late that night my nieghbor came by and I will never forget that. Guy worked in the towers and told a pretty serious story that I am not gonna repeat here.

something I will never forget in my life.

Thanks to being on the west coast I was still asleep when the first plane hit. My Dad roared into my room and told me to get my ass out of bed and come to the TV. I told him to go away, or something of that nature, so he proceeded to walk over to my bed and flip over my mattress. I reluctantly gathered myself and moped into the living room, and what I saw on that screen I'll never forget for a second of my life.

I went to school about thirty minutes later. Watched the news in homeroom. Got to see the towers collapse in Spanish 4. Someone came over the intercom and told us that school was going to be optional for the rest of the day, and that the staff would stay and counselors would be provided if anyone needed to talk.

One thing that amazed me was that even in a room full of rowdy high school students, at that second when we had the option to get up and walk out of class -- nobody did. We all stayed and watched, mostly in silence, together.

A guy on my football team lost his father in Tower two. He worked for an investment firm and was traveling to New York to accept a major promotion. It was the first time he'd ever been there. I'll never forget a moment of that day for the rest of my life.

Proper grammar for a proper situation.

I was actually in NY at the Marriott on Times Square on Sept 10. I was going to stay one more day but I had to work...flew out that day. I was sleeping and a friend of mine called because he thought I stayed another day. When I turned the TV, I saw the second plane hit. Fucking freaked me out. My other friends stayed and were stranded for like 2 weeks.

jesus christ you guys are making me feel old

anyway I was asleep because I was on a swing shift, woke up to go to work and I had voicemails from people saying "omg how can you sleep we're being blown the fuck up" like I was right next door or something.

Anyway I went to work for like a half hour and just had an odd feeling all day so I left. Called my mom who works for the state and told her to go home. I remember feeling literally like the country was going to break into chaos and really wanted to buy a gun.

I was in 8th grade. I had just gotten to school and one of my friends ran up to me and was like "Dude a plane just flew into the twin towers!" I didn't believe it at first, then I walked into my science class and the teacher had the news on the TV. She was crying. They made an announcement over the intercom stating what had happened. I think we watched the news most of the day that day. What a shitty day.

My grandfather used to work at the towers. His office was in the basement of the North Tower when it was bombed back in 1993. He wasn't there at the time. He was some sort of safety inspector, and would've been in charge of getting people out of the buildings on 9/11. The 9/11 thing hit him really hard. He'd spent a lot of time in those buildings.

I was with my family in a motel in Ahaheim right behind Disneyland. I was being a lazy bitch and was still asleep. My mom and sister came in and woke me up and turned on the T.V. as they were showing replays of the first plane hitting and just before the second plane. I just sat there in bed, in awe at what was happening. I couldn't believe that they closed down all the parks for the day for security reasons. So I sat in the motel room all day flipping through channels and ate pizza.

My brother, a friend, and I had tripped acid the night before so we had finally fallen asleep around the time the first tower was hit. My friend's mom came over and told us the towers and pentagon had been hit but we shrugged it off due to the acid wearing off. About an hour later another friend comes busting through the door like the kool-aid man, I'll never forget what he yelled, "The towers are fucking gone!" Well that woke us up.

It wasn't until around 5 that afternoon when I actually saw the news footage, but I remember the listening to Guilliani speakiing after the towers fell on the radio.

This day was horrible. I was a freshman in my 4th period Earth Science class. They were not specific when they were describing the event, so as far as I knew some idiot flew a small plane into one of the twin towers. Then they started to include more details and we saw it on TV. It hadn't occurred to me until later that day when I realized my family went to the airport (it was JFK or Newark I believe) to pick up my relatives who were flying in from Italy. I was so worried that they were on that plane, but thankfully they were not. Sadly though they were re-routed to Greenland and sent back to Italy. We didn't see them for months after the devastation.

In 2001, I lived in Chicago. On the morning of 9/11 I was on my way to a meeting in Chicago when I heard about what happened. The meeting got cancelled, I went to my coworkers house and we watched the news for a couple of hours. Then I headed back downtown to my apartment. I was the ONLY person on the red line train going downtown.

i was in physics in high school and our principal made an announcement saying "i'm sure all of you already know about the terrorist attacks...."

we were like "WTF?!" we were all in class, we didn't know shit until 2 min later when we went in the hall and saw everything on the monitors.

my dad was supposed to fly into NYC that morning but he got reassigned.

i went to ground zero 3 weeks after the attacks and i'll never forgot riding the subway into the city. i got off at the station and it smelled soooooo bad. i was on the phone with my dad and he was like "you know what that is right?" i was like "ummmm garbage?" he then told me it was rotting bodies and a police officer that was near me confirmed it.

shit was sad as fuck. there was soot everywhere, posters of missing people, jagged metal everywhere.... i need to have my mom send me the pics i took. they got published in 3 different newspapers. not bad for a disposable camera.

I was in the 11th grade. The first plane hit right around when classes were changing, and when I'd see people running into their classes. When I walked in everyone was glued to the tv. I had to ask a few times to find out what happened, and when I was told, I didn't believe it. Then I saw the 2nd plane hit. Shit still feels almost unbelievable.

I was in Rochester, NY (approx 5 hours drive away from NYC), I was college student. When my 8am class was dismissed, so I went out of classroom and there was TV all over in hallway.

I couldn't believe what I saw, took me a while to realize what actually happened. :eek4:

And all of the sudden my mom, 1000 miles away from me paged me. She was so scared, that she really want me to hop on airplane and get back home. Even thought it was only 2nd week of my first year in college. I was already getting some fresh pussies and shit, so fuck that.

I live in NY, and was in history class. When my teacher found out, she ran out of the room, screaming down the hallway. We later found out that her husband worked in the towers. He wasn't injured or anything though.

I remember everyone being really confused as to what happened. They weren't sure if it was a terrorist attack or what (although after the second one hit it was pretty much guaranteed). My dad who works in the city didn't come home until midnight.

I remember after lunch, we had teachers watching 2-3 classes at once so they could go fill their cars up with gas.

We had gas stations that went up to 8-10 $ a gallon. I remember hearing about other ones in the city that went up to $13 a gallon.

Lots of people around my area thought WWIII was starting. :(

edit: I remember, I filled my car up the day before. Gas back then was what, $1.50 a gal?

quotes like - "I think people's emotions allowed for things that shouldn't have happened to occur." - Patrick Toomey, Soph, sociology and poli sci

"Would we even be in Iraq if Sept. 11 hadn't happened?" - Nicole Burke Soph., Chem major.

"I think we tried to do a lot of things under the banner of Sept. 11." - David Mulcahy, soph, chem.

I lived 15 mins north of DC. I was 17 and in Algebra 2 when they came over the pa about it. I was confused, scared, angry. They locked down the school, no one in or out. A good friend was scared shitless cause his mom was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day and they wouldnt let him leave. We watched on tv as the second plane hit the tower in confusion, concern and disgust. I was extremely scared for my Dad, who flew those flights a few times a year. He was in England at the time and the Embassy told him to drop anything saying he was an American at the embassy and stay in his hotel. I only had a chance to speak to him for a minute before he had to go. Id never felt so lost and lonely in my life. Lots of tears and worry for my father stuck thousands of miles away.

That night I stayed awake talking to friends and strangers online just to help make sense of the day. Then the anger started for me. I finally got over the shock that someone actually had the balls to do that to the strongest nation on earth. I was pissed that they took the cowardly way out to do it. I was frightened that it could happen again at any time. I was mournful for those lives that we lost to the senselessness of the day.

Its hard to believe its been 7 years. I havent thought about it much lately other than when a political figure brings it up trying to get votes. Writing this has brought it all back and a few tears with it. May those that lost their lives that day rest in peace. And those cowards that brought down the planes rot in hell. May our troops over seas come home safe and sound and finish the job they started. To all those that serve Thank You, you are what keeps America safe, Good Job and Good Luck.
