How many movies are there and what order do they go in..

I know it goes...

Ghost in the Shell 1 > Stand Alone Complex > 2nd gig...

Then I don't know what order the movies are going in.

1st movie > 2nd movie

1st season > 2nd Season > 3rd Movie

i think it goes 1st gig, 2nd gig, solid state society, innocence

the first movie occurs in a separate storyline from the recent series

Ghost in a Shell is an anime I love but I can't watch.

The characters are so fucking dry and artificial

kind of the same for me. particuarly so for the 1st season. it's cool that it makes you think, but it makes you think so damn much and sometimes the episodes just drag on.

the story is great, but the characters :hs:

I'm the opposite: I liked the relationships between characters and thought the plot was tedious in some episodes. I agree with your point about making the audience think. Artificial intelligence, robots, what constitutes a soul, etc.

This is the correct order. There are also a couple OVA's, but they are made up of animation from 1st gig..

Isn't innocence where the major lost her body and is on the net?

you could say she lost her body
then again she didn't really lose it.

But everyone thought she was dead.. I don't remember the end showing her getting a new body. It was just like goodbye ending. So I am confused.

Isn't innocence where the major lost her body and is on the net? true. I don't think she got a new body per se, but she did download a part of herself into that puppet to save Batou when he was in trouble. So I think her mind is still alive and she could inhabit a body if she wanted to.

Yes I understand that she downloaded a part of her into Batou but that does not explain how she came back in a new body for Stand Alone Complex. Unless I missed something at the start of stand alone complex explaining it. I always thought Innocence was the last movie after 2nd gig.

innocence is unrelated to stand alone complex as well as solid state society. the first GitS movie and its sequel Innocence take place in a separate universe than solid state society.
