okay, so i've posted on 4chan and 7chan for years now, but only in the serious boards and /b/. while i'm not very interested in anime, the massive weaboo energy rubs off on me, and i sometimes get struck by the urge to watch a new series, but i never really get around to it.

the only series i've ever watched as a whole was nodame cantabile, and i enjoyed it because i'm an avid musician. i watched 3/4 of great teacher onizuka and i enjoyed that too, but it got too formulaic for me and i lost interest.

what can you recommend that i can easily download?

a while ago, ap13 recommended me tengen toppa gurren lagann to me, but i never downloaded it :o

tengen toppa gurren lagann

Watch it,

If you're not hooked by the first 1/3 of the series you're a faggot

night shift nurse, bible...

oh wait you're cool with me.
some of my faves: elfen lied, tsukihime, Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, black lagoon, Now and Then Here and There, Rurouni Kenshin OVA, samurai champloo, cowboy bebop, haruhi, darker than black, beck, evangelion... bunch more... really depends what you like.

if you liked nodame you should check the live action. its even better IMO.

toki wo kakeru shoujo is a pretty good movie, so if you want something that wont take up too much of your time, watch that. 5 centimeters per second was also a good movie. it's kind of different from what you'd probably expect, but i liked it a lot.

elfen lied is really good, as is black lagoon. they're both darker themed than most anime. darker than black is pretty badass too.

although if it's weeaboo-ness rubbing off on you, you may want to watch haruhi; that was HUGE in japan, and has a lot of references made to it, from inside and outside of anime.

TTGL, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Elfen Lied are all anime i think that anyone should be able to enjoy. more so if you're a heterosexual male and enjoy watching shit getting blown up while at the same time maintaining excellent story.

if you're not really into too much dialogue and philosophy i recommend the second season of GitS over the first though. much more intense.

As for series, check out Mushishi, Kino no tabi, and R.O.D. (read or die) the OVA, and then the series.

You should give Full Metal Panic (3 seasons) a chance to see if you like more "generic" shows (although it's extremely fucking good for being generic). Check out Lucky Star or Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu to see if you like more otaku/crazy stuff (give it a chance lol).

Since you seem to appreciate music, I'll recommend both Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo as well (although they're both horribly overpopular in the states), as both have amazing music and sense.

Other notable series: TTGL (mech/epic/fun), Ghost in the Shell (two series, three moves, Sci-fi/action/godlike), Darker than Black (Action, a must see really), Rec (romance), Full Metal Alchemist (Fantasy/great story again overpopular here), Scrapped Princess (Fantasy/WATCH THIS ASAP), Genshiken (Fucking hilarious/otaku stuff), Ouran host club (romance/shoujo), Shakugan no shana (Fantasy/romance/action/loli), Sayounara Zetsubou Sensei (comedy/japan/DESPAIR), Golden Boy (comedy/older(early 90s)/classic), Black Lagoon (badass/action)

Fuck, I wish I could unwatch these and watch them again :o

Just as a note on Lucky star, don't get turned off by the first 10 mins of the first episode where they talk about food. It gets a LOT better. No idea why they started it off like that. I almost stopped watching, but I usually give a series two episodes to try it out and it turned funny/crazy after that

I guess there are varying degrees of weird. When someone tells me an anime is weird, I expect a kid to grow a horn and have some random bitch bash his head with a guitar or the main character loses an arm and a leg in the first episode.

You act like anything worth watching needs to be Gone With the Wind. In fact, the Romance/Comedy genre SHOULD be whimsical and explore new ideas.

The great thing about Japanese animation is that it goes places that traditional media doesn't dare tread.
